Sunwealth Wins Environmental Finance’s 2023 Bond Award for Innovation

This week, Environmental Finance announced that Sunwealth’s Solar Impact Fund won the 2023 Award for Innovation – Bond Structure (Social Bond) – this is the second consecutive year that Sunwealth has received this award. The Environmental Finance Bond Awards seek to identify and celebrate impactful global green, social, and sustainability bonds. We are glad to be in good company alongside other 2023 awardees, including the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MSCI, Inc., Bank of America, The World Bank, and the IFC.

Judges of the Bond Awards commend Sunwealth's “unique structure [that] provides capital market scalability that would not be available to smaller projects ... [a] diversified approach with co-benefits like apprenticeships.”

Our Solar Impact Fund develops community-based solar projects in low-to-moderate income communities, communities of color, and environmental justice communities, that are often overlooked by traditional investors. The innovative bond structure focuses on increasing solar accessibility and delivering tangible and meaningful impact to these communities through long-term energy savings, localized emissions reductions, and green jobs. Our mission is to build a clean energy economy that benefits everyone.

Through 2022, Sunwealth has deployed over $135 million in community-scale solar projects combatting climate change and inequality — creating clean energy access, savings, and jobs in underserved communities while delivering strong, stable fixed-income returns to investors.

"The award winners provide a wonderful snapshot of the spectacular innovation and activity occurring in the sustainable finance market today, and Environmental Finance is delighted to congratulate all the winners for their success — and thank the judges for their hard work in reviewing the hundreds of entries," said Annabelle Palmer, content strategist of Environmental Finance.
