Sunwealth Featured in National Report on Equitable Solar Savings

What does it take to ensure community solar delivers real savings to the households that need it most? The Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA)—a bipartisan coalition of state energy agencies—explored that question in its new report, Meaningful Household Savings: Best Practices for Achieving Equitable Solar Development. Sunwealth was selected as the first case study, highlighting our efforts to remove barriers and expand access to clean energy in under-resourced communities.

CESA was particularly interested in our community-based development model, which centers trusted local partnerships and inclusive outreach. We work with local leaders—often in local government, housing, and nonprofit sectors—to build trust and expand access to our community solar programs. Our partnerships with organizations like MassEnergize and the City of Cambridge have enabled multilingual campaigns and accessible, community-driven education about how community solar works and who it can benefit.

With over 2,000 community solar subscribers, Sunwealth has been an early and consistent advocate for low- to moderate-income community solar and no-cost solar participation since the SMART program was established in Massachusetts. In addition, we’ve prioritized customer protection in how we structure our contracts—offering free sign-up, no cancellation fees, and no credit checks to remove barriers that often prevent individuals and families from participating in clean energy programs.

We’re honored to be featured as a national example of how clean energy investment can deliver meaningful household savings and help build a more equitable and resilient energy future.
