Community Solar 101
What is Community Solar?
Community Solar is a way for renters, homeowners, and shelter providers to enjoy the benefits of solar energy without installing solar panels on their roof! When you subscribe to a Sunwealth Community Solar farm, negative solar credits are placed on your electricity bill, greatly reducing your monthly payment. Subscribers then pay Sunwealth for those credits at a locked in discount (20 or 25%) - this is where you see your savings!
Who can benefit from Community Solar?
Did you know that around 80% of U.S. residents can’t install solar on their home because of shading, roof type, or renter status? Community Solar is designed to increase access to the financial benefits of solar power to anyone who pays an electric bill – not just those able to install their own panels.
How is Community Solar different from rooftop solar?
In a Community Solar program, the energy produced by a solar system is sent directly to the local grid. Massachusetts residents can benefit from this system by subscribing to receive a portion of the solar energy produced as a ‘net-metering-credit' on their bill. Community Solar farms are different from traditional rooftop solar arrays because subscribers don’t need to install anything on their property to receive the financial benefits.

How does Community Solar billing work?
Participating in the Sunwealth Community solar program in Massachusetts involves a 2-bill system. Subscribers will continue to receive their Eversource electricity bill as normal but see that is it greatly reduced each month by a “net-metering-credit'. Sunwealth will then invoice for credits received at a fixed 20 or 25% discount. Check out our blog for a deeper breakdown! How does Community Solar billing work? — Sunwealth®
