Sunlight on the horizon

2021 in Review

As Sunwealth and our development partners wrap up work on our final solar installations of 2021, we take a moment to reflect on the people, projects and partners that have inspired us this year. Together, they show us that a better energy future is possible – and that it happens here and now through our shared labor and investment. Some highlights:

  • 84 consecutive months of payments from our power purchasers, which translates into 28 consecutive quarters of targeted returns to investors, with no defaults

  • Over 500 community-based solar projects delivering clean energy, savings and green jobs to diverse communities across the country

  • $40M in new debt and tax equity investment from individuals, foundations, family offices, endowments and corporations

  • A growing team – we are now at 26 full-time employees and over 60 development partners – committed to putting climate change and inequality on the ropes in this generation.

The team from Solar Design Associates inspects the installation at 186 Summer Street in Kingston, MA. At 718 kW, the system, developed in partnership with Lowell, MA-based NRGTree, is our largest rooftop installation to date.

New York City Housing Authority residents participating in a solar apprenticeship program install solar on the rooftops of Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City, NY. Sunwealth partnered with local installers and developers Sol Purpose, Venture Solar, and Bright Power to develop 2 MW of new solar capacity across the rooftops of 60+ New York City Housing Authority Buildings in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. These projects, featured by the U.S. Department of Energy as part of its Moment in the Sun series, will provide discounted energy for close to 500 low- and moderate-income New York households.

Jacob Hannah of Coalfield Development and Dan Conant of Solar Holler flip the switch on the largest community solar project in West Virginia. The 122 kW project, Sunwealth’s first installation in the state, will provide discounted energy to Coalfield Development, a nonprofit community economic development organization.

The sun shines on a new parking lot canopy at the Blue Army Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Franklin Township, New Jersey. Sunwealth partnered with Citrine Power and Pfister Energy to build the 680 kW carport, one of the first low-income community solar projects in the state. It will provide discounted power to residents of Warren, Sussex, Morris and Hunterdon counties.

In Vermont, we partnered with our friends at SunCommon to develop a 450 kW roof-mounted project for the Winooski School District, on the roof of a building housing an elementary school, high school and the district’s administrative offices. The project will provide meaningful lease revenue and energy savings for the district, in a community where close to 30% of residents live below the poverty line.

This 9 kW rooftop installation in Roslindale, MA was completed by Resonant Energy through our Solar Access Program, bringing the benefits of clean energy to residential homeowners in underserved markets across eastern Massachusetts.

The projects pictured above are just a small sample of the hundreds of solar installations we have been able to finance with your partnership. Together, they are delivering clean energy and savings to our communities, green jobs and revenues for local developers and installers, and strong, stable financial returns to investors.

Sunwealth enters 2022 with a robust pipeline of projects, a rich network of development and installation partners and a dedicated team committed to building a better energy future. Working together, our shared future is bright.

Wishing you and yours a healthy, peaceful and prosperous 2022.
