HOW IT WORKS

  1. You subscribe to a Sunwealth community solar project in your area — no upfront costs, credit checks, or cancellation fees

  2. As the solar panels send electricity to the grid, your local utility puts credits on your bill to reduce your overall costs

  3. Sunwealth charges you for those credits at a discount, resulting in 20% or more in annual electricity savings

It’s really that simple! Sign up today.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Community solar is a way for individuals to benefit from clean energy without installing solar on their own property. Individuals can subscribe to a solar project in their area and receive monthly credits that reduce their electric bill. It’s a great way to access clean energy and save money at the same time!

  • No! Our program does not require a credit check.

  • No, you can cancel at any time without a fee. Sunwealth will process your cancellation request within 30 days and will not charge you for any credits received after 30 days.

  • Once the project is producing energy, your utility company (e.g., Eversource) will put credits on your electric bill, reducing the amount you owe to them. Then, Sunwealth will charge you for those credits at a 20% discount. In other words, if your electric bill is around $120, you would receive a credit around $100 from your community solar subscription, leaving you with a $20 electric bill. Sunwealth would then bill you for around $80.

    Costs before community solar: $120

    Costs after community solar: $100

    Savings: $20

  • Please email Sunwealth’s Community Solar team at communitysolar@sunwealth.com to update or change your payment method.

  • Invoices can be mailed directly or sent via email. Please notify our team of this preference upon enrollment in the program.

  • Please email Sunwealth’s Community Solar team at communitysolar@sunwealth.com to register your new utility account number. If you move out of the utility service area, please provide Sunwealth with a 30-day notice so we can remove your account from the program.

  • We analyze your last 12 months of electricity usage and match it with the appropriate percentage of solar production. Sunwealth generally undersizes your allocation by 10-15% to ensure we are not over-crediting your account. Please note that your solar credit allocation may be higher or lower depending on the month. See below for more information.

  • This is most likely due to seasonality. In the summer months, our solar panels generate more electricity (and therefore more credits). In the summer season, it’s possible that the solar credits will outweigh your actual electric bills costs, resulting in a negative balance. You will use these credits in the winter months when our panels generate less electricity. If you have questions, please reach out to Sunwealth’s Community Solar Team at communitysolar@sunwealth.com

  • Residents of Eversource Territories (SEMA, NEMA, WCMA) who are on the Eversource discount rate (R2/R4), OR who reside in an income tagged environmental justice zone. Additionally, organizations who are on the Eversource residential rate (R1/R3) AND located in an income environmental justice census tract. Not sure if you qualify? COME MEET US IN THE COMMUNITY!

Your Sunwealth team is invested in meeting communities where they are. We work to remove barriers from accessing clean, renewable energy and love getting out of the office to talk about it.

  • Starting on the far left, our team attended a Fix-the-Grid event in Concord, MA which focused on discussing the role of environmental justice in the energy world.

  • The week prior, Grace attended an energy justice meeting hosted by the Codman Square Development Corporation in Dorchester. This was a collaborative space for residents to ask clarifying questions about their Eversource bill and learn about community choice aggregation.

  • Since December, Grace and Sean have attended multiple Cambridge Community Center events to speak directly with Cambridge residents.

  • Our CEO, Jon Abe, is photographed helping a Wayland Housing Authority resident sign up for community solar. Jon visited the WHA around 7 times to build trust with residents and provide educational resources about the program.
